Donna of the Dead Entangled Teen eBook Alison Kemper

Donna of the Dead by Alison Kemper
Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.
The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy head cheerleader, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.
But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

He did get annoyed with Donna at times but he still will do anything for her which made me love him even more. The other characters are well written and add to the story line as well.

Donna of the Dead Entangled Teen eBook Alison Kemper Reviews
This book was so much fun I read it in one gulp! Besides having to deal with the ravenous zombies, cowardly Donna has a chorus of voices in her head demanding to be obeyed. This was a great twist that kept me guessing—was this a gift, a disability or some kind of demonic possession? Not even Donna knows, but as the story progresses, she figures it out.
Though the focus is on Donna the whole time, her surrounding cast makes this story stand out. Each character is so well drawn that whenever someone wasn’t in a particular scene, I worried what was happening to them. In spite of their diverse interests, the teens Donna gets stuck with in the high school make a fun, resourceful team. Adding in a lost six-year-old and a malicious zombie who isn’t as dead as he ought to be really amps up the tension—especially when it looks like there might be a traitor in their midst.
And then there was the cute boy problem—long-time crush Liam vs. Deke the boy next door—who both want to kiss her while zombies thrash at the doors ) But when the opportunity comes to make a choice, Donna’s big dilemma isn’t which boy to choose, it’s whether she has the guts to save the people she cares about—and what to do about those voices in her head.
From the cover, you might assume this is just for girls. You'd be wrong.
This book is campy, fun, and includes a wide cast of characters...think The Breakfast Club with a zombie apocalypse instead of detention. As the cover implies, there is some kissing, but there's also a lot of zombie-bashing excitement. It's exactly the type of book I would have read in high school, and I enjoyed reading it as an adult.
Like many high school books and movies, there are some stereotypes presented in Donna of the Dead. You'll find groups of geeks, cheerleaders, and jocks, along with our mostly average heroine, Donna. All of these students are thrown together by virtue of a single common thread they've survived the initial press of a zombie apocalypse.
Donna is a very believable teenage girl, with all of the likeable (and not-so-likeable) traits that entails. She's attractive, reasonably intelligent, and would prefer to let the guys handle the blood and guts. She's attracted to strong guys, and enjoys pursuing her crushes. However, she's not very brave, and has to face the consequences when this puts her friends at risk. One of the things I liked about Donna is how she grew by the end.
That said, Deke, Donna's best friend, is by far the character I liked the most. He seems a lot like the guy I was in high school, and pushes Donna to always improve herself. He doesn't let her get away with much, and he's definitely a guy you want by your side in a zombie apocalypse.

Before the zombies get them all.
Loved this YA zombie apocalypse read! This is actually the first time I've read a zombie book, I'm normally a vampire, witch or alien reader when it comes to the paranormal stuff. I have to say, I really enjoyed it, finishing over a few hours. It is solidly YA, and you get that great teen high school drama going which the characters eventually overcome as they have to work together to stay alive.
Speaking of the characters...I liked seeing Donna change from a scared, "save myself first" person to someone willing to fight to save those people she cares about (and some she doesn't, at least not at first). Gretchen was one of those characters you just want to smack, so I was fine with how she ended up. Loved seeing Veronica evolve into a leader. Liam...well, all I can say is I hope things turn out for the best at some point in their world as I kinda think he deserves a good ending. And Deke, well-I wish I had one of him when I was in high school ;-)
The story keeps you interested and involved the whole time you're reading and I had to force myself to put it down at 2am the first night I started reading it so I could get some sleep...only to grab it right back up again the next day. If you're looking for a zombie read in the YA books, this is a great choice-I'd probably recommend it a best for late middle thru high school ages. I'm looking forward to more stories set in this world.
